WSET level 2 Award in Wines

Are you a wine enthusiast and already have a basic knowledge of and/or work with wines? Then WSET level 2 is the right course for you.

Duration: 8 classes (8 x 3 hours) + exam (+ study time).

Description

Theory

The WSET level 2 course will provide you with a solid overview of the world of wine. We discuss the main grape varieties, the different styles of wine and the regions where the grapes are grown. You also learn about viticulture, including climatic and other influences, and winemaking. We will also discuss how certain choices in the cellar affect the flavor profiles of the wines we taste.

All the theoretical knowledge you need to pass the exam is found in the supplied study book and study guide. PWA is providing 24 guided learning hours. In addition to this time spent in the classroom, we recommend students to revise the study material at home as well, with a minimum of 1 hour per week and no less than 11 hours of self-study in total. To get the most out of the classes, you are asked to read the material to be covered in the next class as preparation. We recommend that you spend at least a couple of hours per week studying the course materials. The textbook is not thick, but it is very condensed.

Tasting

Although blind tasting at this level is not yet part of the exam, the WSET’s systematic approach to tasting will receive much attention. With the help of your WSET teacher, you will gradually get used to this analytical way of evaluating wines. In total, we will taste 48 wines. To understand what we smell and taste and where certain aromas/flavors come from, we always connect the textbook theory with what we find in our glass. At the Panama Wine Academy, you can be sure you will be tasting excellent and extraordinary wines. We also pay attention to wines from the cheapest segment of the market, which is necessary to be able to evaluate the quality of wines.

Exam

The WSET Level 2 Wine Course exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. At least 28 must be answered correctly to pass. If you fail to do so, PWA offers you the opportunity to resit at least twice a year. Blind wine tasting is not yet part of the exam at this level.
