Description
Curriculum
WSET Level 3 builds upon the knowledge gained in Level 2 and is truly an advanced wine education. We discuss in detail the key factors in grape growing, climate, winemaking, and the various wine regions.
Wine tasting
The systematic WSET tasting technique is, of course, a major focus at Level 3, where we link theory with practice. To understand what we taste and where certain flavors originate, we continuously connect the theory from the study book with what we find in our glass. This step-by-step approach helps you become accustomed to this analytical way of evaluating wines.
At Panama Wine Academy, you can be assured of tasting some fantastic wines. We also pay attention to wines at the lower end of the market, so you learn to assess the quality of every wine.
After the WSET Level 3 course you will be familiar with:
- Viticulture and Vinification Processes: Allowing you to evaluate the influence of terroir, climate, and production techniques on wine profiles.
- International Wine Regions: Including the unique characteristics of grape varieties and wines from specific areas, enabling you to speak authoritatively about regional wine styles.
- Professional Tasting and Evaluation Techniques: Equipping you to systematically analyze and assess wines for quality, complexity, and aging potential.
- Wine Legislation, Labeling, and Market Trends: Helping you interpret wine labels and advise on wine choices.
Studymaterial and exam
The WSET Level 3 exam consists of both a theory and a tasting part:
Theory:
You will answer 50 multiple-choice questions and 4 open-response questions. All the necessary knowledge is contained in the study book and study guide.
Tasting:
You will evaluate 2 still wines in a blind tasting, a white and a red wine. You must achieve a passing score for both wines.
Retake: in case you fail one part, you only need to retake that part.

WSET Level 3 is an advanced level wine course so recommend completing WSET Level 2 first. Although students are assumed to have the WSET Level 2 as a basis, this knowledge could be gained elsewhere meaning WSET Level 2 is not mandatory (but highly recommended).
