Theory
The WSET level 1 Award in Wines course offers you an introduction to the world of wine. We discuss the main grape varieties, the different styles of wine and the most well-know regions where these grapes are grown. In the second class we will focus on the elaboration of successful wine pairings.
All the theoretical knowledge necessary to pass the exam is contained in the textbook and study guide that will be provided. The textbook is slim but very condensed. Each paragraph contains relevant information so there is a reasonable amount of knowledge to take in. PWA is providing six guided learning hours in addition to 45 minutes of the exam. In addition to this time spent in the classroom, we recommend students to revise the study material at home as well.
Tasting
In both classes we will start with systematic wine tasting, tasting 6 wines in each class. Your teacher will guide you step by step through the tasting technique, which becomes more extensive with each successive level of the WSET courses. At level 1 we start with the basics to become familiar with this method in a comfortable way. Wine tasting is not part of the exam at this level.
Examination
The WSET Level 1 wine course exam consists of 30 multiple-choice questions. You must answer at least 21 correctly to pass. If you fail to do so, PWA offers you the opportunity to resit at least twice a year.
